Wow, what a knife! WE made the right choice by teaming up with Michal Gavac for round 2 of the High-Fin series, with the XL being the PERFECT size for medium- to large-handed people.
The primary downside I've experienced, is that the ball detent sits VERY deep in the tang of the blade, making the lockbar all that much more sensitive to touch when deploying the knife. With my abnomrally long alien fingers, I find it difficult to properly grip the knife and use my thumb to open it. However, reverse-flicking it with my middle finger is perfectly easy and fine. The action is BUTTERY smooth, with a beautiful drop-shut action.
Ergonomically, the High-Fin XL is a dream to hold. The scallops for your fingers are shallow and wide, meaning they're more just suggestions than anything, which makes it easy to hold in just about any grip without feeling any hot spots. It's VERY lightweight for its size, and balanced quite nicely.
Aesthetically, this knife is GORGEOUS! From its super-slim profile, to the polished titanium handles, the High-Fin XL is a pleasure to behold. The "Hakkapella" patterned Damasteel blade is AMAZING! It reminds me of bacon and eggs, with the varying patterns between straight and circular. Everything is polished so brightly, it's almost like staring into a mirror when looking at it. The clip's crystalization ends up being a bit darker than anything else on the knife, and I would've preferred a matching Damasteel clip in stead, but otherwise it still looks great and functions PERFECTLY as far as going in and out of a pocket.
I don't know what else to say about this knife! I've wanted a custom Gavko for years, and while those are still just a bit out of reach for me, this gets me VERY close. I love it. I'm buying another one next week to do some hardware/color swaps. YOLO!
Also, regarding Tennessee Cutlery: They were VERY quick to answer a couple questions I had about this order, and they had this in my mailbox a day before WE officially released these on the 16th! WOW very cool to get this so quickly! First order from TC, but will HAPPILY order here again.
